When duck hunting, go where the ducks go. When you are looking for singles, go where the singles go. There has never been a better time to be single. Things have really changed since the invention of the internet. There are hundreds of thousands of available singles at your finger tips. But, what is the best way to meet your future life partner? Internet dating is just one way to meet singles but there are many other avenues for finding that love relationship. When you are older than thirty, you need to start looking for single people in different places than when you were in your twenties. Finding love in mid-life is different than finding love when we are younger. Remember when you were young and everywhere you looked there were single people. You went to a party and there are single people in droves. Go to a bar, there are single people on every bar stool. On the campus of high school and college, almost everyone was single. You didn't need to make an effort because available single people were all around you. As more and more of your friends got married, there were less single parties to go to on the weekends. The bars crowd starts attracting the unattractive. On a day-to-day basis, you weren't in school surrounded by like-minded singles. Did the well of singles dry up? One of most asked questions I receive as a dating coach has been, "Where do I go to meet quality single people?" For those of you who are complaining that there aren't enough single people to choose from, your focus is all wrong. First of all there is a huge pool of single people in the United States. According the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2005, there were 89.8 million singles in the United States alone. Let's think about this for a minute. If you line up 100 people, chances are, close to 41 of these people are going to be single. There is a huge well of available singles. When I started dating again at age thirty-six, I was such a novice dater. I simply went back to what I knew when I was in my twenties. In my twenties, I was hanging out in bars, at fraternity parties and keg parties. When I ventured out into the dating world, I gravitated to some of my old hang outs and discovered that not much had change in thirteen years. Some of the same people I had done with when I was twenty-one were still sitting on the same bar stool. That should have been a really good clue that bars were not the place to meet my ideal mate. It took me a while to come to that conclusion. So what are some better venues for finding your ideal mate? I am really going to stretch you out of your comfort zone. I want you to think about all the possibilities. Mr. or Ms. Right might knock on you door, but the probability it slim to none. If you really want to meet the might person, you are going to have to step it up a notch. I am going to list some of my very favorite places to find quality singles. I want to explore these venues with a very open mind. If you say that you really want to be in a relationship with someone, you are going to have to step out of your comfort zone. I want you to think for a moment about every major accomplishment you have achieved in your life time. What did you have to do to get there? I am going to bet that you had to invest time, energy and money. In order for you to achieve your dream of finding your ideal mate, you are going to have to do the same thing. What if you are always doing the least amount of work possible for something that you say is really important? The answer is, (drum roll please), you won't get the result you desire! If you aren't investing at least two hours per week into getting out and meeting singles, you are really not invested in the process. You need to step out and play full out if you want the result of finding your ideal mate. My two top picks for this week are: seminars for the men. Single women attend these frequently. At a recent event I attended the presenter polled the room of over 250 attendees to see how many were single. Most of the people in the room were women and almost every woman raised her hand when asked if they were single. For women: Real Estate and Investing seminars are a hay-day for the single woman. You will meet some successful, nice looking men at these events. The subject matter gives you an excuse to talk to the male attendees.
